
Hot flashes! They can be the absolute worst.
But they don’t have to be.
There are things that we can do to make them less bothersome.
Dress in layers. I know this sounds basic, but having a layer to remove can be tremendously helpful when a hot flash starts.
Wear light fitting and breathable clothes. The cooler we are, the less bothersome a hot flash will be.
Carry a portable fan with you (or have a fan available by your bed, couch, or desk).
Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet.
Exercise regularly.
Stay hydrated.
Engage in mindfulness and breathing exercises
Do yoga!
Lose weight, if you are overweight or obese.
Find a cognitive behavioral therapist who has expertise in working with peri- and postmenopausal women.
Try clinical hypnosis
Acupuncture
Avoid well-known triggers: alcohol, spicy foods, and caffeine
